Clear Well Drinking Water Radar Level Measurement

When an Illinois water treatment plant needed reliable level measurement of their clear wells, they turned to Flowline. Filtered drinking water is temporarily stored in clear wells, where previously injected chlorine is given the required contact time to disinfect any remaining pathogens, prior to the water being pumped into the distribution system. The wells are dank, underground vaults that cycle humidity and condensation with each sunrise and sunset. Plant operators complained that previous ultrasonic level sensors became intermittent when condensation peaked, and pressure level sensors often become damaged by pump turbulence. For these reasons, Flowline suggested the use of our non-contact radar sensors that are unaffected by condensation or turbulence. The radar sensors provide continuous level data to the SCADA which monitors the wells, and the display provides local level indication. Flowline is reliable level measurement.
